Bloody Foreigner’s

We had been stuck behind this car for ages, as we traveled on holiday, my dad was getting more and more frustrated
“Bloody foreigners!” he shouted angrily.
“At least if you are going to come over to this country and drive on our road…”
I try to and calm him down.
“They’re not that bad dad, a lot of them come over here and do good things.”
“Like what!”
“Many of those in our medical profession come from abroad.”
“oh.”
He suddenly went quiet, thinking…
****
I hoped he was remembering all they had done for mum, before she died..

I have been trying hard with my grammar this week, I generally have no clue where I am supposed to put these marks. I seemed to have missed 101 in grammar at school. To the point of my son (8) knows better grammar than me!!!
But I am trying to learn from the feedback I have been getting from my story on Scribophile.
Certainly a topical debate at the moment in a lot of countries around the world, and often it is the children that point out the obvious!

My daughter has just changed her wii character to have a black face, and she had purlyl done this out of innocence, because she knows no different and what it can signify, she just fancied a different colour!

Very topical and poignant.
A minor observation, if you don’t mind…?
Last para/sentence do you mean quite or quiet?
Thanks for posting, I admire the fearlessness of the daughter/son to their father.

Haha! I went to high school in a tourist town and remember my parents screaming something similiar. They didnt yell foreigners but Tourists! That brought up a lot of happy memories and a smile to my face. Thank you for the great start to this friday!

Out of the mouths of babes…
Since you asked for feedback, it should be: They’re not that bad instead of ‘there’ 🙂

Dear Claire,
Would that we could appreciate people for their differences rather than hate. In a perfect world…Good story.

I lived for a while in a northern town in which the natives referred to vacationers as “tourons.” The town died when the tourist quit coming.

There are so many excellent medical doctors from foreign countries that make a difference to someone’s life every single day – and they are magnificent at it! Nice story! Nan
