Young Love
© Jan Wayne Fields
My boyfriend phoned and told me he had a surprise for me, and to come round at dusk.
As my mum drove, clearly in on the surprise, I was full of excitement and nerves, having already spent the afternoon worrying about what it could be.
He took my hand and led me blindfolded to the back of his house and what greeted me took my breath away.
It was magical with all the pretty lights; he’d set up a table where we could enjoy a romantic meal of sandwiches, crisps and cake, that he had prepared early with his mum.

I am still as ever concentrating on my story, still using the online critique group, we are getting closer and closer to the part where I haven’t written anything. As works slows I have been writing stuff instead of working..
Very young love, it seems! How old are they, I wonder! Well done! Fits perfectly!

Thanks, I generally have no idea how old they could be, this took a lot of editing cause I couldn’t get it right with the number of words I had lol

Dear Claire,
I liked the element of surprise. This has me wondering what the celebration is for. Ah those pesky word limits. 😉 Nicely done.

Great opening scene. You should forget word count and continue this story someday. Add a little conflict, like all of sudden the heavens opened and drenched them. Then have him save the day— or at least the lunch. 🤗

I think, I wanted to make them older, She had always wanted to go camping, so he set it up in the garden….
