Boating Holiday
Copyright Fatima Fakier Daria
Promises of a peaceful holiday touring the canals of Venice was just what I need. The tranquil pictures, the sound of the boat engine humming me to sleep. I was sold you couldn’t hold me back I’d packed my bags before you’d even finished telling me about it.
What I clear forgot to realise is that there is an M25 for boats and here I am sat in a queue waiting to progress onto the next stage of my holiday.
I am beginning to wish I’d insisted on boating along the canals of England, surely, they can’t be this bad!?

Not really taken part in Friday Fictioners for a while, As I’ve had loads of other stuff going on in that head of mine. So thanks to Rochelle who always keeps this going no matter the weather!
The M25 for those of you who don’t know, is the main circular road around London, it is also known as the BIGGEST carpark in the world. For those who want to know more about the M25 and are yet to be stuck on it Clicky click.

I’m off to Venice soon, I regularly ‘park’on the M25 and I love floating on English canals so this delightful piece really struck a chord with me!

The key to enjoying canal boating is to not be in a rush to get anywhere! You just have to go with the slow flow 🙂

Dear Claire,
It’s hard when the dream trip isn’t what it was cracked up to be. I felt her frustration. Nicely done.
Shalom,

Nice to see you back. Hope all that stuff going on in your head was good stuff, or at least, led to some good stuff. I know that M25 well – didn’t Chris Rea write a song about it, called it the Road to Hell?

I have no idea… But I live in Nottingham so luckily I don’t have to contend with it. I get the M1 and A52 x

In the middle of the summer, queues at locks on the UK canal system can take half a day to get through. As Iain says, if you’re on a boat, just go with the slow flow.

Alot of the locks around here, are now employing staff to manage them, which I guess makes thing quicker.

The way you rush the words and sentences together gives a very good idea of your narrator’s hustle and bustle mentality!

Traffic jams are exasperating wherever but at least they could calm down and have a relaxing drink on deck.

Oh and there’s a lot of traffic jams in those smaller canals. You just have to wait. And take in the sights.
