1st Re Write

Hey,

So I went to an event on Saturday where four authors spoke about there work in crime fiction.

One of them Steven Dunne spoke about how his police officer is based out of a police station somewhere. (forgive me ignorance in not knowing where) As the stressing I have had is that Long Eaton fails under Derbyshire and it turns out Major Crimes is run from Nottingham (possibly opposite work). So that then got me thinking well my character might as well run out of Long Eaton police station so guess who is in for a re write at this early stage.

One thing they did say yesterday is not to get to caught upon police procedure in my writing as that is quite boring! So good news on both fronts really. So though I haven’t got to the end of my story and know where it is going I am off to start my 1st re write! Not sure how I feel about this….

Yesterday they also said alot of things that made me think, what are the faults in my characters, what can they overcome, I know my MC has up and left her family to investigate a murder but my DI seems worryingly normal…. hmmm

IWSG – Research

 

Hey fellow worriers

I think this month’s topic is very apt as I continue to try and write a book with no one to ask for answers (no one I dare ask)

What is the weirdest/coolest thing you ever had to research for your story?

I wouldn’t say it’s cool but I have spent endless hours researching Murder, and ID of dead bodies and my current favorite missing persons, though a programme on the BBC recently helped with that, when I typed in the right word hey presto and where I had previously been stopped because I am not a member of the police force it appears if you google the right thing then you don’t need to be.

I am also an avid readers of Rebecca Bradley’s blog on police procedure and when I started writing an interview scene I went back to check it was right..

Someone once said just write the damn story and go back and check that it is right afterwards.. and where as what I have written procedure is right at the moment who knows if it will be when I get to the dreaded editing stage!

I was told that if you ask Siri where can I hide a dead body it’s responses are slightly amusing (small things)

The thing I am musing about most at the moment other than damn story lines and plot holes is why are competitions so expensive to enter? £15!!! one the other day.

it’s like if you don’t have loads of money, you can go to writing events / courses as some of them cost an arm and a leg! And you can’t enter competitions for the same reason. I guess I am just a struggling writer going no where fast.

Hey,

So I have MS (Multiple sclerosis) its such a great illness I can’t even spell it

Today I went to Oxford (108miles each way) to take part in some research to see if Coco can improve fatigue and I am sat in bed having been up since 5am waiting for Frozen to finish so my daughter goes to sleep! So anyway by the end of the week I will be drinking hot chocolate in the morning to see if it helps, so fingers crossed on that one. But I met someone who really inspired me today.

She kinda made me wish I could be a research assistant! and also she said that I should continue blogging and just write what ever (haha) so here we are AGAIN!

We have had a family death which came as a bit of a shock to all concerned! Esp as I get a call at work on Friday telling me I need to come home so I can get Melanie from school. So thats been hard, on two accounts I am supporting my husband and children in some degree while feeling it myself! But I guess it’s a bit like when Andrew’s best mate dieded.

my story seems to be at a stand still 😦 I am still in my three month period to whether I will be accepted by my chosen mentor…) maybe I am better off dictating it!But I’ve just not had the time to do anymore dictating… So maybe tomorrow..

Anyways enough rambling

Yesterday…

So yesterday was a bad day 😦

So I spent yesterday struggling with MS and my legs again, a girl at work told me she was too hot and I proceeded to come back from the toilets to offer her my jumper, as I just got all confused and then spent the next x trying to work out why I had offered my jumper if she was too cold!

Then came the bad news that one of my work colleagues has cancer for the 2nd time, and that broke my heart and I wanted to cry! Because the last person who I knew who had Cancer for the 2nd time being it breast cancer died, I was like I am not going to cry until she has left work at least, but I managed to hold off and I still haven’t cried! But thinking about the other person who died just breaks my heart and I was a bit like my MS is bad again cause it’s Winter time and now I am being told someone else has cancer again! 😦 So yesterday no writing was done and I pretty much sucked! Having only got the chocolate next to me now!

On the writing front, I went to a talk today by an author at the library in Nottingham, which was really interesting! And I have also been asked to review this guys book! Does that mean I am a proper blogger now? They have sadly only sent me the kindle version but it’s a start!

As for my writing career I sent the guy who did my creative writing course the first bit of the story I am writing at the moment! And asked him if he would read it and tell me what he thinks as it’s what I am looking to submit to the mentoring thing!

So tonight, chocolate fingers, location work for my story and sleep possibly! The sleep probably will win over everything else!

Researching…

Hey,

struggled to write last night, I am just wondering if I could write the “police” bit first and then intertwine her story in later the two worlds collide!? As I was writing her bit last night and I was kinda struggling #boring

I managed to take some photos today, I dragged the kids along which wasn’t one of my better ideas. So if anyone is interested this is the body dump site haha

My legs are bad again and pretty much waiting to rub some deep heat in! I don’t think the cold of standing on the park helped this or all the standing I did yesterday at the sale.

 

Still with the dead body

Life got in the way yesterday so I didn’t get chance to blog, but nothing was really missed I tried to write some more while watching the Apprentice! So you can guess how much I got done. I’ve still not been out to take photos! I am in a bit of a muddle over who would turn up at a crime scene from “Long Eaton” police office. I am in two minds whether to just walk into the police station tomorrow, but then I thought about emailing a CPO?

Though then again I am typing this as I watch Criminal Minds!

I did manage to write some while at work today haha while waiting for the systems to work. But I think I am getting hung up on the venue and the view around where the “body” is found instead of concentrating on the story. But I sorta feel I need to work out who works at the Long Eaton station!? But at the same time does it matter if I invent some detectives that work in Long Eaton? As the story isn’t about the local police force as such it can’t matter if I have got the right number of police officers in the right place??

Nevermind the issues with forensics and getting that right! haha maybe I should concentrate on insurance!?

Health has been better I guess but that might be because I did a lot of sleeping yesterday 🙂 🙂 🙂 my legs are still “painful” Andrew suggested seeing if the drs would put me on something for the winter months!? But I guess for as long as I can “cope with it” and it doesn’t effect work then…

So I’ve got a dead body..

I have started writing, but now i’ve got a body and I need the identity of the body to get back to my MC. Who said this writing businesses was easy! I might go out with my phone tomorrow and take some photos, look on google maps and the “dump” site. So if you hear of someone acting suspiciously it’s most probably me… I wonder if I am best to take my camera and not my phone or is that worse (haha)

Struggled this morning and ended up driving in, my legs have decided that now would be a good time to start “hurting” I managed to stay seated most of the day though! I did half think about asking to borrow someone’s heat pad for their back and sit there with my legs up on a stool with that on it. Maybe I will take the deep heat with me on Friday instead.

I’m tired, but I need to research for a bit I think….
